Billy Cobham Quintet
A special musical highlight awaits the audience on International Jazz Day: fusion icon Billy Cobham meets the JugendJazzOrchester NRW. When the energy and experience of the world-famous drummer meets the joy of playing and creativity of the young talents, an extraordinary dialog between the generations is created. Together with the Billy Cobham Quintet, they present a program full of rhythmic sophistication, improvisational joy and intoxicating soundscapes. Both ensembles will play their own and a joint set.
Drummer Billy Cobham is considered one of the pioneers of jazz rock and a formative figure on the international fusion scene. For over 60 years, his name has stood for musical innovation and virtuosity. Even at the age of 81, this exceptional artist is still full of energy. Together with his Billy Cobham Quintet, he brings his classics to the Jazzfest stage in fresh, modern arrangements.

YouthJazzOrchestra NRW
Since 1975, the JugendJazzOrchester NRW (JJO NRW) has stood for musical excellence, creativity and international appeal. As Germany’s first state youth jazz orchestra, it has developed into an outstanding talent factory for jazz over the past five decades. The ensemble owes its reputation not only to its outstanding young musicians, but also to innovative projects such as collaborations with classical orchestras and international exchange programs. Concert tours have taken the orchestra to over 30 countries on five continents.
